Executive summary: six findings that shaped the year
Teeinblue analyzed more than 8.4 million personalized order items sold through Teeinblue between July 2025 and June 2026, combining Teeinblue-wide performance data with a deeper look at seller and shopper behavior on Shopify. Six findings stand out.
1. Personalized-product sales continued to grow strongly year over year. From July 2025 to June 2026, Teeinblue-powered Shopify stores generated $259.3 million in GMV from 8.4 million personalized items. Personalized item volume increased 32.8% year over year, while GMV grew by roughly 33.8%, substantially above the 5–9% annual growth estimates for the broader personalized-gifts market.
2. The Mother's Day and Father's Day season drove a large part of this year's growth. Nearly 48% of the additional order items generated year over year came from April through June 2026, the period covering Mother's Day and Father's Day. June 2026 was especially strong, with order volume 108.2% higher than June 2025. This momentum is an early signal of continued growth heading into Christmas 2026.
3. Different personalization options have different selling seasons. Christmas remains the largest buying period overall, but several specialized options show strong demand at other gifting moments. Street Map and Calendar perform strongly around Valentine's Day, Moon Phase around Mother's Day, and Star Map and Song Search around Father's Day. Scrabble and Route Map are more concentrated around Christmas.
4. Upload Photo combines large purchase volume with strong cart-to-checkout performance. Buyers purchased around 3.4 million items using Upload Photo, and 35.3% of its add-to-cart events progressed to checkout. Several more specialized options also rank highly for cart-to-checkout rate, including Route Map (35.6%), Street Map (34.4%), and Song Search (34.2%).
5. Gen AI effects have moved from experimentation into real sales. Products using Teeinblue's Gen AI effects generated nearly $29 million in revenue across almost 800,000 order items during the reporting period. Gen AI effects now appear in nearly 1 in 4 Upload Photo order items, showing that photo-to-art personalization has become a meaningful part of personalized photo purchases on Shopify.
6. When buyers purchase multiple items, they usually stay close to the product they already chose. Among multi-item orders, buyers most often choose another version or design of the same product. At Christmas, 55.4% of multi-item orders contain the same product and the same design, which supports upsell and cross-sell strategies such as adding another personalized version for a different recipient.
1. Market snapshot: how big is the personalized products market in 2026?
Industry at a glance
The global personalized gifts market is estimated at approximately $34 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach nearly $36 billion in 2027, according to multiple market reports. Long-term annual growth forecasts range from 5.4% to 9.4%, depending on methodology. For sellers of personalized products, this points to a category that continues to expand rather than mature.
The U.S. personalized gifts market alone was valued at $9.69 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.03%, with the online channel growing at more than 7% (Arizton). The U.S. remains the core market for most personalized-product and print-on-demand sellers, and its growth is happening online.
Shoppers kept spending through the 2025 holiday season. According to the CNBC/NRF Retail Monitor, 2025 holiday sales grew 4.1% year over year, near the top of NRF's forecast for a record holiday season expected to surpass $1 trillion for the first time. December retail sales were 3.54% higher than a year earlier.
At the same time, an NRF holiday survey found that 85% of shoppers expected gifts to cost more because of tariffs. That changed how people bought, not whether they bought: more shoppers waited for promotions, compared prices across retailers, and chose products that justified paying full price.
What this means for personalized-product sellers
- Demand is not the problem; capture is. The personalized products market enters 2026 healthy but unforgiving. Growth is flowing to sellers who own their traffic (branded stores, social, email, AI visibility) rather than renting it from crowded marketplaces.
- Personalization protects margins. In a discount-heavy, tariff-inflated environment, personalization is one of the few levers that lets sellers differentiate and step out of the price war.
- Trust converts cautious buyers. Reviews, accurate delivery estimates, mobile-friendly personalization, and realistic previews increasingly determine who wins the sale.
Teeinblue by the numbers: how did personalized-product sellers perform?
From July 2025 to June 2026, Teeinblue sellers grew substantially faster than broader market estimates.
| Metric (July 2025–June 2026) | Value |
|---|---|
| Total personalized items sold | 8,393,432 |
| Total sales value (GMV) | $259,308,965 |
| GMV growth, year over year | +33.8% |
| Personalized item growth, year over year | +32.8% |
| Average order value (AOV) | $39.81 |
Compared with the same twelve months a year earlier (July 2024–June 2025), personalized item sales on Teeinblue climbed 32.8%. Teeinblue's performance is not directly comparable with industry-wide forecasts, but the gap is notable: the personalized gifts market is projected to grow by roughly 5–9% a year, while Teeinblue sellers' total GMV grew by around 33.8% year over year.
Do personalized products convert? Cart-to-checkout statistics
34.0% of shoppers who added a personalized product to their cart on a Teeinblue-powered Shopify store went on to complete the purchase (July 2025–June 2026). Across ecommerce, the average cart converts only about 30% of the time, the flip side of the roughly 70% cart abandonment rate tracked by the Baymard Institute.
| Cart-to-checkout rate | |
|---|---|
| Teeinblue personalized products | 34.0% |
| Ecommerce average (Baymard Institute) | ≈ 30% |
The two datasets cover different groups of stores and shoppers, but the comparison is a useful benchmark: shoppers who add a personalized product to cart show relatively strong intent to complete the purchase.
2. How sellers set up personalized products: the most popular personalization options on Shopify
Across nearly 300,000 published Teeinblue campaigns on Shopify, sellers keep personalization simple: Text, Clipart, and Upload Photo remain the most used features.
| Personalization option | Share of Shopify campaigns using it |
|---|---|
| Single-line Text | 73.5% |
| Clipart | 41.5% |
| Upload Photo | 31.6% |
One campaign can include several features, so the shares do not add up to 100%.
Single-line Text is the most widely used personalization option, appearing in 73.5% of Teeinblue Shopify campaigns, the closest thing to a default in personalized design. Clipart (41.5%) and Upload Photo (31.6%) follow as the other key features.
Sellers use an average of about 2.06 personalization options per campaign. Rather than overwhelming customers with fields to fill in, sellers build around one or two options to keep the shopping experience simple. Given how widely Text, Clipart, and Upload Photo are used, the most common combinations are very likely text + clipart and text + photo. The trend Teeinblue predicted last year, that simple personalization would win, now shows clearly in how sellers set up their products.
When everyone uses the same features, design becomes the differentiator
When the same core personalization options are used across the platform, they carry less weight on their own. What increasingly sets a product apart is the design: how the personalization is presented, who the product is made for, and how well it fits a specific use case or gifting occasion.
Beyond the core options, specialized options appear in a smaller share of campaigns: Route Map, Street Map, Song Search, Moon Phase, Star Map, and Scrabble. Although fewer sellers use them, they show promising buyer signals. Some rank among the highest for cart-to-checkout performance, and others show distinctive seasonal demand (see section 3).
Sellers can combine a specialty option with familiar text personalization to create a more distinctive product. The specialty feature provides the visual hook that makes the product feel one-of-a-kind and hard to find in the next store.
3. How buyers shop for personalized products
When do buyers shop for personalized products?
Christmas remained the largest sales period for personalized products in July 2025–June 2026, with November and December accounting for around 32% of annual GMV on Teeinblue. The other ten months accounted for 68%.
Some of the strongest year-over-year growth came earlier in 2026. From April through June 2026, Teeinblue sellers generated around 985,000 more personalized order items than in the same three months of 2025. That is nearly 48% of the total year-over-year increase in order items across the full reporting period.
| Top 3 months for order-item growth | Growth vs. same month last year |
|---|---|
| June 2026 (Father's Day) | +108.2% |
| April 2026 (Mother's Day) | +87.1% |
| December 2025 (Christmas) | +20.7% |
The continued growth across major gifting periods in 2026 suggests demand could remain strong into Christmas 2026.
What this means for sellers: plan for higher-than-last-year order volumes this Christmas, with products, campaigns, production capacity, and fulfillment in place before the peak. Mother's Day and Father's Day deserve a bigger place in the 2027 calendar: treat the spring stretch as a headline season in its own right, not just a lead-up to Q4.
Which personalization options drive the most demand at Christmas?
Christmas lifts purchase volume across almost every personalization option, but buyers personalize their holiday purchases differently. Comparing how often each option appeared in purchased items before and during Christmas shows a clear shift toward photo and image-based personalization.
Upload Photo rises from 19.3% to 23.3% at Christmas, the largest gain among the major personalization options, while Clipart edges up from 25.4% to 26.0%. Text moves the other way: Single-line Text remains the most used option but falls from 43.4% to 40.0%, and Paragraph Text declines from 7.4% to 6.3%. Text still plays the biggest role overall, but buyers lean more toward photo and image-based personalization when shopping for Christmas gifts.
Which personalization options depend most on Christmas?
Across all personalized products sold through Teeinblue in July 2025–June 2026, about 31% of the year's purchases happened in November and December. For some options, Christmas accounts for a much larger share.
Scrabble stands out the most: 47% of all Scrabble purchases in the year happen in November and December. Route Map follows at 43%, then Vector at 38%. Upload Photo (35%) and Clipart (34%) sit only slightly above the benchmark. Song Search (26%) and Star Map (25%) depend less on Christmas; this does not mean demand is lower, only that more of their yearly purchases happen at other gifting occasions.
For sellers, Christmas-dependent options such as Scrabble and Route Map should be ready well before the holiday selling period starts, while Song Search and Star Map have more opportunities across the rest of the year.
Which personalization options have a second season outside Christmas?
Several personalization options have another strong selling period around Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, or Father's Day. In some cases, buyers purchase almost as many, or even more, items with these options than they do at Christmas.
| Personalization option | Strongest non-Christmas month | Purchase volume vs. Dec 2025 (Christmas) |
|---|---|---|
| Calendar | Feb 2026 (Valentine's Day) | 143.7% |
| Street Map | Feb 2026 (Valentine's Day) | 115.4% |
| Moon Phase | May 2026 (Mother's Day) | 86.3% |
| Song Search | Feb & Jun 2026 (Valentine's Day & Father's Day) | 79.9% |
| Star Map | Jun 2026 (Father's Day) | 78.8% |
These secondary peaks follow the type of gift buyers look for at each occasion:
- Valentine's Day: Street Map, Calendar, and Song Search are commonly used in designs built around couple memories: maps marking where a couple met, calendars highlighting an important date, and products built around a shared song.
- Mother's Day: Moon Phase products often focus on family milestones, using the moon phase from a child's birth date or another date connected to becoming a mother.
- Father's Day: Star Map designs highlight important family dates, such as the day someone became a dad. Song Search appears in gifts built around songs connected to fathers and family memories.
What this means for sellers: the same personalization strategy will not work equally well all year. Match the option to the occasion and the type of design buyers want: photo-based products at Christmas, couple-oriented designs for Valentine's Day, and family-focused designs for Mother's Day and Father's Day.
Which personalization options have the highest purchase intent?
Cart-to-checkout rate shows how often shoppers continue to checkout after adding a personalized product to their cart. On Teeinblue in July 2025–June 2026, some niche personalization options converted best.
Upload Photo has both high volume and strong conversion. Buyers purchased around 3.4 million personalized items using Upload Photo, making it the third most purchased personalization option, and 35.3% of Upload Photo add-to-cart events progressed to checkout. Clipart appears in around 3.8 million purchased items, but its cart-to-checkout rate is lower at 30.3%.
Some niche options convert particularly well. Route Map (35.6%), Street Map (34.4%), and Song Search (34.2%) rank among the strongest for cart-to-checkout performance. These options are often used for very specific product ideas, such as marking a meaningful place, recreating a route, or turning a shared song into a gift. When the idea matches the occasion or memory a buyer wants to capture, they are relatively likely to complete the purchase. Specialized personalization works best when it is built around a clear reason to buy, not added just to make a product look different.
How many items do buyers order, and what do they buy together?
| Items per order | Share of orders |
|---|---|
| 1 product | 85.9% |
| 2 products | 10.6% |
| 3+ products | 3.5% |
85.9% of personalized-product orders on Teeinblue contain only one item, while 14.1% include two or more. That gap is a cross-sell opportunity. At current average order values, if 10% of a store's single-item orders became two-item orders, an average Teeinblue store could add roughly $550 in monthly GMV, or about $6,600 a year. The real opportunity varies widely by store size, so treat this as an illustrative scenario, not an expected result.
| In multi-item orders, buyers choose… | Other months | December 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Same product, same design | 45.9% | 55.4% |
| Same product, different design | 41.9% | 28.6% |
| Different product and different design | 12.2% | 16.0% |
| Same design on a different product | ~0% | ~0% |
Buyers usually stay with the product they already chose. In normal months, 45.9% of multi-item orders contain the same product and the same design, and another 41.9% contain the same product with a different design. At Christmas the pattern gets stronger: in December 2025, 55.4% of multi-item orders contained the same product and the same design.
What this means for sellers: the most relevant upsell starts close to what the buyer already chose. Prompt buyers to add the same product and design for another recipient (for example, a second personalized ornament for another family member), or suggest other designs from the same product collection. Cross-selling a different product can still work, but the second product should be clearly complementary, such as personalized children's cutlery paired with a matching engraved breakfast board.
What makes a personalized product sell year-round?
Teeinblue looked at the personalized products that appeared in its monthly top-20 sellers by sales volume between July 2025 and June 2026. They span shirts, mugs, posters, ornaments, and more. Many are tied to a specific recipient or occasion; others are evergreen products such as photo mugs, engraved boards, and photo wall art. The most common themes among top-selling products were Couple / Love (17.6%), Father's Day / Dad (14.1%), and Pet (12.0%).
Personalized gifts for babies and children show the strongest staying power. Name-engraved breakfast boards stayed among the top sellers for as long as 10 months, and personalized children's cutlery and baby photo frames also appeared repeatedly over several months. Couple and anniversary gifts and pet gifts stayed among the top sellers for 3–4 months, and personalized apparel for 3–5 months.
The longest-running top sellers came from very different themes, but they shared one trait: a clear, recurring reason to buy. Seasonal launches do not have to carry the whole catalog. Instead of creating every holiday product from scratch, sellers can adapt an existing idea, for example turning a family or pet concept into a Christmas ornament, or adding seasonal artwork to an existing product.
4. Gen AI personalization statistics and trends: from experiment to real revenue
From July 2025 to June 2026, products using Teeinblue's Gen AI effects generated nearly $29 million in revenue across almost 800,000 order items.
| Gen AI metric (July 2025–June 2026) | Value |
|---|---|
| Gen AI revenue | ~$29M |
| Gen AI order items sold | ~800K |
| Upload Photo items that use a Gen AI effect | Nearly 1 in 4 |
| Share of Teeinblue sellers' total sales | ~11% |
| AI-transformed images generated per month | ~1.5M |
Gen AI effects now appear in nearly 1 in 4 Upload Photo order items, and Gen AI effect products make up about 11% of Teeinblue sellers' total sales. AI-transformed photos are no longer limited to sellers testing a new feature; they are a meaningful part of what buyers actually purchase. Around 1.5 million AI-transformed images are generated each month, which shows shoppers actively trying different AI outputs before placing an order.
Do Gen AI products sell at a higher price?
Yes. Gen AI personalized items on Teeinblue generated an average value of $37.14 per item in July 2025–June 2026, compared with an app-wide average of $30.89 per personalized item: roughly 20% higher.
| Average value per item | |
|---|---|
| Gen AI personalized items | $37.14 |
| All personalized items (app-wide) | $30.89 |
Gen AI revenue was strongest in December and again in May–June, in line with Christmas, Mother's Day, and Father's Day. The average value per Gen AI item peaked at about $40 in December. The estimated AI generation cost is roughly $0.46 per purchased item, about 1.2% of its $37.14 average sales value.
Among top-selling products that use buyer-uploaded photos, 55% apply a Gen AI effect or a Teeinblue built-in image effect, so the upload is rarely the final output. Sellers transform it first with artistic styles, background cleanup, image enhancement, and other effects. Sellers can differentiate photo personalization not only through what buyers upload, but through what the product turns that photo into.
Which products use Gen AI effects most?
| Product type | Share of Gen AI campaigns |
|---|---|
| Posters & wall art | 18.7% |
| T-shirts and apparel | 14.53% |
| Acrylic plaques | 10.30% |
| Mugs / drinkware | 7.92% |
| Ornaments | 4.37% |
Posters and wall art are the most common product type among Teeinblue Gen AI campaigns at 18.7%. Teeinblue sellers have made Gen AI a key part of how they design personalized products for the biggest gifting occasions, and the higher average item value suggests buyers are willing to spend more on Gen AI personalized products. Sellers can write their own prompts or use Teeinblue's AI Image Prompt library, a growing collection of ready-to-use prompts that turn a customer's photo into a ready-to-sell design.
5. Photo processing costs add up quickly at scale
Photo personalization often needs more than placing a buyer's uploaded image on a product: background removal, image enhancement, face cutouts, or other processing before it becomes part of the final design.
Across the latest three months of available data, Teeinblue's built-in Background Remover processed nearly 1.9 million images and was used in more than 254,000 orders. Image Enhancer processed almost 195,000 images and contributed to more than 23,000 orders in the same period. These numbers account for a large share of photo uploads on Teeinblue, showing how often basic image processing becomes part of the workflow once personalized photo products sell at scale.
Many third-party image-processing services charge per image or through usage-based credits, typically around $0.05–$0.20 per image. For example, Removal.ai charges roughly $0.03–$0.14 per image on its subscription tiers, and Cutout.pro ranges from about $0.05 to $0.13 per image.
| Processing the same image volume | Estimated cost |
|---|---|
| With third-party tools | $35,000–$140,000 per month ($420,000–$1.68 million per year) |
| With Teeinblue's built-in Background Remover and Image Enhancer | $0 (built in, no extra cost) |
Illustrative cost of processing the same image volume with selected third-party services; not verified seller spending avoided.
With Background Remover and Image Enhancer built into Teeinblue at no additional cost, sellers can process customer photos without switching tools or paying per-image fees, which makes higher order volumes easier to handle during peak seasons.
6. Personalized product trends and predictions for Q4 2026 and 2027
1. Photo personalization continues to become photo art. A single photo can now become a watercolor portrait, hand-drawn sketch, vintage painting, cartoon illustration, retro poster, storybook character, or seasonal scene. Gen AI applies these transformations to each buyer's photo automatically, so sellers can offer more artistic styles without editing every customer image by hand. Prompt quality will become a key differentiator: a strong prompt transforms the photo into the intended style while preserving the people, pets, or details that make it personal and recognizable.
2. Personalized music is moving from printed designs to playable products. Instead of only printing a song title, Spotify-style layout, or QR code, sellers now offer products that play the chosen song directly. Personalized music fridge magnets combine a personal photo with a meaningful song, and cassette-style formats play music without a QR code, app, or phone. Song Search performs particularly well around relationship- and family-focused occasions.
3. Newspaper- and magazine-style photo designs are a noticeable trend. Sellers turn the uploaded image into a mock cover or front page, complete with a publication name, headline, and personalized message. The format works across recipient groups, from friendship gifts to pet products, because it gives buyers a clear storytelling structure to personalize.
4. Uploaded photos are moving beyond standard printed formats. One newer product is the personalized flipbook, where a buyer's photo becomes a sequence of frames that creates movement when played. Another is the angel-wing photo ornament, where the photo becomes part of a symbolic memorial shape. The input is still a familiar customer photo, but the output is becoming more varied.
5. Coquette-inspired details are becoming part of gift design. Bows, ribbons, lace-inspired borders, pearls, soft florals, and romantic vintage details appear more often in personalized gift designs. A bow can frame a name, ribbons can surround a photo, and lace or floral details can turn simple text personalization into a finished decorative design. This refreshes established products such as ornaments, mugs, apparel, plaques, and photo gifts without a new personalization option.
6. Familiar inputs will support more product experiences. Text, photos, and clipart still account for most personalized-product purchases. Because buyers already understand them, sellers can build new product experiences around them without adding friction. Personalization innovation is likely to move in both directions: more experiences from proven inputs, and new options that give buyers new ways to make a product their own.
7. AI is reshaping how customers find products. During the 2025 U.S. holiday season, traffic from generative AI tools to retail websites increased 693.4% year over year, according to Adobe. AI assistants are becoming another product-discovery channel alongside search engines, marketplaces, social media, and ads. Sellers need to make their products easy for both shoppers and AI systems to understand: who the product is for, which occasion it suits, what buyers can personalize, and what makes the gift distinctive.
Final thoughts
Personalized ecommerce continues to grow, and Teeinblue's 2025–2026 data suggests there is still plenty of room for the category to expand. New personalization options, Gen AI, and emerging product formats give sellers more ways to create distinctive products, while many of the strongest opportunities still come from familiar text, photo, and clipart personalization.
The clearest opportunities for personalized-product sellers:
- Plan different personalization ideas around each gifting season.
- Make more of buyer-uploaded photos.
- Build upsell flows around how customers already shop, especially additional versions of the same product or related designs.
As personalization becomes easier to create, the products that stand out will be those that give buyers a clear reason to personalize them for a particular person, memory, or occasion.
